Which to me makes more sense than a "Tanneau Cover" that covers the driver's / passenger's area in a car. In the marine world the top that snaps in - as suggested by "Spyderlust" is called a "cockpit cover" that covers the driver's / passenger's areas (helm). Until they started making fiberglass bed covers, the term Tanneau only applied to the vinyl / leather cover but the market has changed while the name remains the same. In the truck world, a Tanneau is a cover that covers the cargo area (ie. Don't want to throw a wrench in the works, but fact of the matter is the industry calls it a Tanneau, so Tanneau it is. I know I started this thread & apologize for the scrutiny of what a "Tanneau Cover" is. Sorry for speaking for the rest of spyderchat.and for you people who don't know what a REAL tonneau cover is.please see above pics. I am open to learning new things about silly looking vinyl covers. I would be happy to hear the rest of the positives of this tonneau cover debate.becuase honestly, I know what it is, but I have never driven a car with one on it, and would like to hear what it does or is for. I can assume there are some kind of wind noise benefits from it, but as for positives v. Now, on to the next question.why in the world would you acutally want a REAL tonneau cover for the spyder.I don't think it looks very flattering.and seems weird to "snap" yourself into the car using some type of vinyl cover. I should have only spoke for myself.and speaking for myself.I will continue to call the fiberglass cover a "tonneau" cover, becuase that is what the companies who are selling them call them. You are correct.there are a lot of people who are not in the know about a lot of things. Any other questions I would be happy to help with.Ĭlick to expand.Sorry, you are correct, I should not have been so quick to jump and speak for everyone else. I will look for some pics of the attatchment hardware, or I will take some pics of mine when it stops raining. I think the painting price was quite high though, but they did an immaculate job on it. I think the cover cost $350 and then I paid another $350 to get it finished and painted.and obviously did the installation of the hardware myself. Some fine sanding and smoothing and primer and then the paint. Everyone, please for Spyderlust's sake, let him know he is right and that a REAL tonneau cover is not hard fiberglass, but instead the soft vinyl or leather cover pictured above.Īs far as answers to the real questions.the COVER did need some prep work before painting. So, if you wouldn't mind giving it a rest. WE understand.but the companies are using this nomenclature when referring to the fiberglass formed cover for the convertible top when it is in the folded down position. Two days later got a email from AGI stating my order shipped like they haven't been ducking my emails for the past month.Click to expand.YEAH YEAH YEAH, we all know what a tonneau cover really is. Week 13 received a email from TNT with a tracking number from AGI. Contacted via FB messenger and the person helping me out there stated they were on vacation. On week 11 I have yet to receive a tracking no. They got back to me right away saying they added it to my order. On week 9 I finally received an email from AGI with a photo of the roll bar and I confirmed my shipping address and phone number. They stated production was complete and someone will email me with some photos and to confirm shipping info. By week 7 I have yet to hear from them so I contacted them on FB Messenger. I did have a track day coming up in 5 weeks but I wasn't counting on having the cage by then. That was nice of them but wasn't necessary. They stated 4-5 weeks and asked if I had a track day coming up they could expedite my order. I contacted AGI via FB Messenger shortly after placing the order to check on the current lead time. (Later on there were a tariff bill for $50.25 from fedex) Shipping from Australia was $550 via TNT (FedEx). Simply add to cart and check out using Paypal. The website contains two photos, initially I liked the design and the price isn't terrible so I pulled the trigger. Many on Spyderchat and MR2 Spyder fb group recommended the AGI but I couldn't find very many photos out there. Most Spyder owners would go with the Hardog roll bar and although it is a good cage I personally believe it is compromised due to the fact that it is designed to work with the OEM soft top (the backstays come down at a steep angle to accommodate the soft top). Shortly after purchasing my spyder I began researching roll bars since I will be tracking my car occasionally HPDE, no plans for competition.
